EDMONDS YOUTH COMMISSION
Mission
City of Edmonds Youth Commission is a youth-led commission whose mission is to protect, preserve, and enhance the quality of life for Edmonds youth by advising City Council and the public on issues relating to youth policies, programs, and opportunities.
Terms
Members shall be appointed to a term of two (2) years beginning October 1st and ending September 30th. Graduating seniors will be appreciated as they leave the commission in June, and new appointments will be made for those vacant positions the following October. Application and reference forms will be available at the start of September.
Eligibility
To be eligible to serve on the commission you need to live within the City of Edmonds city limits. Candidates must be entering grades 9 through 12, or be of equivalent age if not enrolled in a traditional school program.

Seat 1: Lucy Calabro
Seat 2: Eemaan Bhatia
Seat 3: Julie Andres (she/her/hers)
Julie is a senior at Edmonds Woodway High School who enjoys being an active member in her school community. In school, she participates in tennis, and involves herself in leadership roles such as LINK crew, NHS, and her school’s executive ASB. Outside of school, Julie likes to spend her time outdoors, skiing, hiking, and hanging out with her friends. She also spends a lot of her time drawing and painting and is proud to have her art submitted into the Arts in Action event. Julie is looking forward to working with others to create a positive impact for Edmonds youth!
Seat 4: Joelle Walworth
Joelle is a sophomore at Kings High School, where she enjoys being a member of the Tea Club and the Art Club. She is a writer for the TeenTix blog, a program for teens to review art events, and she hopes to encourage youth engagement in the arts. Joelle joined the Youth Commission to spark positive change for teens and Edmonds as a whole.
Seat 5: Sam Yi (he/him/his)
Sam is senior at King’s High School, where he serves as ASB President and participates in International Club and Film Club, among others. Sam is in his second year as a Youth Commissioner and is excited to continue the work of those before him as well as start new projects to benefit the Edmonds community. He is particularly passionate about mental health resources and accessibility. In his free time, he enjoys eating, coming up with new outfits, and all things film and filmmaking related.
Seat 6: Mariana Yenter (she/her/hers)
Mariana is a junior at Edmonds Woodway high school. She partakes in various extracurricular activities that improve the community, including the Edmonds Stream Team. Mariana joined Youth Commission to advocate for change and positively impact the Edmonds community.
Seat 7: Sophie Gerdes
Sophie is a Junior at Edmonds Woodway. She partakes in various school extracurricular activities such as the Dance team, Warrior Connect, NHS, and Students Saving Salmon. In her free time, she likes to spend time with friends and do art projects. She joined the commission to spread awareness about our environment and native plant population.
Seat 8: Lucy Lakefish
Lucy is a sophomore at Edmonds Woodway High School. She cares about her community and wants it to thrive at its best potential. Lucy is enthusiastic about being on the Youth Commission and contributing new ideas. Out of school, Lucy enjoys walking her dog around the neighborhood and taking her boat out in the sound.
Seat 9: Joanna Na
Seat 10 (alternate): Charlie Morgan
Charlie is a sophomore at Edmonds Woodway High School. He is an honors student who is involved in a variety of extracurricular activities such as his schools speech/debate club. golf and fishing are two of his favorite activities. Charlie wants everyone to feel safe and included In the Edmonds community.
Seat 11 (alternate): Naomi Machyo
Naomi is a senior at Edmonds Woodway High School who prioritizes uplifting all communities in any way she can. In school, she participates in clubs such as FCCLA, Sports Medicine, Black Student Union, and Link Crew. Her non-school-related extracurricular activities include volunteering at soup kitchens, delivering groceries for food banks, enjoying time with friends, baking, and listening to music. She also attends to those outside her community partaking in food and clothes collections for homeless people in Seattle. Naomi is very excited to be a part of EYC to help amplify the voice of the youth community in Edmonds!
Meeting Information:
The commission meets September through June from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in person.
Special meetings and retreats may be held during July and August as needed, as determined by the youth commissioners.
