The City will begin a three-day project to dredge the stilling basin located north of
Good Hope Pond in Pine Ridge Park beginning Tuesday, September 8.
Work is
expected to take approximately three days, with construction activities taking place
daily from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The stilling basin is an important part of the park’s stormwater system. It allows
runoff from nearby roads to slow down so sediment and debris, including pine
needles, cones and leaves, can settle out before the water overflows into Good Hope
Pond. The basin has not been dredged in nearly a decade and has become completely
filled with sediment, leaving insufficient capacity for it to function as intended.
The City has contracted with Granite Construction to dredge the basin and haul away
the accumulated sediment. Good Hope Pond itself will not be impacted by the work.
Temporary Park Closures
For the safety of park visitors and construction crews, the Pine Ridge Park parking
lot and the main access road between Good Hope Pond and the park gate
will be closed during construction hours each day.
All trails that cross the construction area will also be closed to pedestrians and
cyclists from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each affected trail entrance will be posted with
a “Trail Closed” sign.
The following routes will remain open:
• The upper trail accessible from 83rd Avenue West
• The Cedar Crest trails
• The upper trail loops
• The trail along the east side of the park from the parking lot toward 83rd
Avenue, which will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists
• The tunnel under Main Street near 86th Place
The entire park will reopen for public use each day after construction
concludes at 4:00 p.m.
City crews will support the project by providing trucking and pedestrian control
assistance. This approach will allow the City to maximize the amount of dredging
work performed by the contractor while minimizing the time and resources required
to manage sediment hauling and park user traffic.
Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, follow posted closure signs and use the open
routes shown on the attached map during construction hours.
