City of Edmonds - Washington

The City of Edmonds supports walking and biking as safe, healthy and attractive alternatives to driving. In order to make biking and walking easier, the City updates the Transportation Plan every six to seven years, called the Transportation Plan Update - last completed December 2024.

The plan identifies stretches with existing pedestrians and bicycle facilities as well as proposed projects (map). that help guarantee safer future non-motorized transportation conditions. All proposed projects in the plan were evaluated based on a set of criteria - equity, safety, proximity to activity centers and other key locations, and capacity / applicable to roadway projects only (link to p. 48).

CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS: 

• 2025 - completed
• Curb Ramp upgrades along 88th Ave. W (south of Olympic View Dr.), Olympic View Dr. from SR-524 to Talbot St., and Main St. from 6th Ave. to 8th Ave. 
• Main St. @ 5th Ave. (facing northbound movement) - Flashing LEDs placed around STOP sign. 
• 2026 - in progress
• 7th Ave. N Pedestrian improvements from Main St. to Caspers with upgrade of all non-ADA compliant curb ramps along this stretch. A raised mid-block crosswalk will also be added at 7th Ave. N @ Sprague St. (Construction scheduled for 2026).
• Olympic View Dr. @ 88th Ave. W. - Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB’s) added to new mid-block crossing.
  
• 2027 - future projects
• Citywide Curb Ramp improvements with the upgrade of (23) curb ramp along Bowdoin Way, 3rd Ave. N @ Brookmere St., and 76th Ave. W @ 236th St. SW (currently in Design Phase / Construction Phase in 2027)
• Citywide Lighting Project: addition of pedestrian and standard light poles at various intersections / mid-block crossings throughout the City in order to improve night-time transportation safety (such as 76th Ave. W @ Interurban Trail, 76th Ave. W @ 200th St. SW, 3rd Ave. S @ Walnut St, SR-524 @ 9th Ave. N).
  

The City continually looks for funding opportunities to improve non-motorized transportation conditions throughout the City (with Federal and State grant programs).
