What is the energy meter program?
The City of Edmonds was awarded an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG), funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, for an energy meter program. Through this program, the city has made available 36 energy use meters to residents and small business owners for check-out. The goal of the program is to provide local residents and small business owners with an opportunity to quantifying the energy consumption of various household or business items and to provide guidance on how to reduce energy consumption within their home or business. Two types of energy meters are available: Kill-A-Watt EZ and Belkin Conserve Insight. Learn more about the energy meters available for check-out here.
Why is it important to calculate energy use?
According to the U.S. Energy Information Agency, residential and commercial buildings are responsible for 39 percent of the energy consumed nationwide. Appliances and small electronics consume two thirds of the energy used in U.S. households. As consumer electronics become more common, this number is likely to grow.
