Resolutions

In September 2006, the City Council formally expressed support for the Kyoto Protocol by Resolution No. 1129 and joined ICLEI by Resolution No. 1130.

In April 2008, the City Council resolved to establish a sustainable building policy with Resolution No. 1168, and to become a member city of Cascade Agenda with Resolution No. 1169. Resolution No. 1170 committed the City to establish environmental principles, policies, and goals to take a leadership role addressing climate change. In this resolution, Council recognized the key role education and transit-oriented development play.

Council passed Resolution No. 1252 in June 2011, committing to its pursuit of energy independence.

With the passing of Resolution No. 1389 in June 2017, Council set climate goals to locally meet or exceed those established in the Paris Climate Accords. The intent is to limit the average global temperature to no more than two degrees Fahrenheit above the pre-industrial average. Council revised the previous goal in August 2020 to constrain the average global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Fahrenheit with Resolution No. 1453.

Edmonds City Council adopted the 2023 Climate Action Plan in March 2023 with Resolution No. 1518. It charts Edmonds' course to climate neutrality by 2050 in alignment with the goal set by Resolution No. 1453. 

Proclamations

The Mayor proclaimed October 4, 2006 as "Change a Light Day" in Edmonds to encourage citizens to switch to energy-efficient light bulbs in their homes.

The Mayor proclaimed April 14 - 22, 2007 as "Earth Week in Edmonds" in conjunction with Step it Up National Day of Climate Change and the 37th anniversary of Earth Day.

The Mayor proclaimed March 29, 2008 from 8 to 9 p.m. as "Earth Hour in Edmonds" and encouraged citizens to turn off their lights to conserve energy.

Climate Committee

The Mayors' Climate Protection Committee meets the first Thursday of the month from 11 am - 12 pm in the Fourtner Room ~ 3rd Floor of Edmonds City Hall, 121 5th Avenue North.(Meetings subject to change... please contact Carolyn LaFave for meeting schedule.)
