      Illicit Discharges - Illicit discharges are regulated by Edmonds City Code section 7.200.  Pollutants may include, but are not limited to: paints, varnishes, and solvents; oil and other automotive fluids; pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers, hazardous substances and wastes; sewage, fecal coliform and pathogens; dissolved and particulate metals; animal wastes; wastes and residues that result from constructing a building or structure; noxious or offensive matter; and non-hazardous substances or materials that may cause or contribute to pollution.

      Notification of Spills - The person or company responsible for the premises or operation in which a known or suspected release of materials has occurred shall take all necessary steps to ensure the discovery, containment, and cleanup of such release.

      Street Sweeping Schedule - The City of Edmonds street sweeping schedule is dictated in large part by the seasons and major weather events.  City efforts are focused on streets that have curbs, gutters, and storm systems.  The purpose for sweeping streets is to capture debris and contaminants before they enter the stormwater system.  The city's stormwater system drains to creeks, Lake Ballinger, and to the Puget Sound.  The City incorporates two styles of sweepers into these operations - a mechanical sweeper and a regenerative air sweeper.  The re-gen sweeper is designed to pick up the fine particulates that are created by vehicle traffic.  These particulates are a big part of the pollution and water quality issues facing the Puget Sound today.  Our efforts are to support and comply with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) and in doing so promote clean, clear water for the environment and the future.

      Winter Storm Response

      icesnow logo2City crews work hard to keep you safe and on the road during winter storms.  You'll often see crews working around the clock just ahead of and during heavy freeze/snow storms.  Anti-Ice applications are applied to roadways just ahead of the freeze in an effort to keep ice from building up on the pavement.  Roads are then maintained after the snowfall to remove snow, apply sand and close unpassable road sections.  You can follow the Edmonds Public Works Twitter feed for up to date information on road closures and storm response.

      Snow removal and street sanding schedules have been established to keep the citizens of Edmonds moving even in adverse winter conditions.  Those roads that provide main connections between cities are the first priority to maintain.  While the City will make every effort to keep the streets passable, for your safety avoiding travel during inclement conditions is recommended.
