Choose a Meter

The Edmonds Energy Meter Program offers a choice of two different energPowerMeter-smy meter types for check-out: Kill-A-Watt EZ and Belkin Conserve Insight. Both meter types monitor indoor energy use of specific appliances or electronics by plugging the appliance/electronic directly into the unit. The meters will provide you with the number of watts used by the appliance/electronic as well as operating costs. There are a few differences in the functions offered by each meter type, which is discussed below.

When you come to check out a meter, please be prepared to select which meter type you would like to check out. If you wish to compare results between the two meter types, you may check out one of each type if enough meters are available.

Kill-A-Watt EZ

(Model No. P4460)

Belkin Energy Meter

(Model No. F7C005q)

The Kill-A-Watt meter provides a wider aray of measurements in addition to watts and operating costs, which as voltage, line frequency, and power factor. This meter plugs directly into the wall without a cord, so it can be tricky to use with hard-to-reach outlets where you won't be able to read the monitor at outlet level. The Kill-A-Watt estimates operating costs by the day, week, month, and year.

The Belkin meter provides fewer measurements than the Kill-A-Watt meter, but it does provide the CO2 footprint. This meter has a five-foot long cord, which allows you to read the device at eye-level. The Belkin meter estimates operating costs by the month and year, but not the day or week.
