The Waste Prevention and Recycling Program includes public education and awareness of all aspects of solid waste management - reuse, recycling, composting, proper disposal methods, local options and opportunities for recycling other materials and waste prevention activities.

Garbage & Recycling Haulers

recycling-wasteCurrently, curbside garbage collection by one of the private haulers is not mandatory in Edmonds plusthe City itself does not operate its own garbage collection department.  Residents and businesses could choose to transport their own solid waste to transfer facilities operated by Snohomish County.  However, convenient scheduled collection is predominant among the neighborhoods and businessess throughout the City.

For single and multi-family properties that subscribe to garbage service, recycling is included.

  • Sound Disposal provides service in the greater "bowl" area of downtown Edmonds.
  • Allied Waste Services of Lynnwood provides service to almost all of the remainder of the city.
  • Waste Management NW provides service to about 120 homes in an area north of Lake Ballinger.
  • Self-haul your garbage and recycling to a Transfer Station operated by the Snohomish County Solid Waste Division.  Please visit the Snohomish County website for a complete list of transfer stations, holiday hours, items accepted for disposal, acceptable materials for free recycling, etc.

Larger Containers - Bulky Items

  • Allied Waste has a container service available for activities such as remodeling and large cleanup projects.  Several sizes of dumpsters are available.
  • All companies can accommodate requests to collect unwanted bulky items such as furniture and other types of household items.  A small fee is charged, but it may be less expensive than hauling it yourself.  Restriction apply so please call individual hauling companies for more information.
  • Feel free to call the City Recycling Coordinator at 425.771.0235 with questions you may have on properly disposing of any unwanted household items.
  • Local charity outlets also accept many gently used household goods but also have restrictions on certain items and condition of items.  Please call the charity first before dropping off unwanted items.
