The Edmonds City Council (Council positions are at large positions) meets as a body of the whole on the 1st, 3rd, and 4th Tuesdays of the month starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Public Safety Complex located at 250 5th Avenue North, Edmonds. All Council positions are "at large" positions. Audience participation is welcomed during the "Audience Comments" portion of the meeting. Audience comments are limited to 3-minutes per person. Comments regarding any public hearing or "closed-record review" scheduled on the agenda are not taken during the Audience Comments portion of the meeting.
On the 2nd Tuesday of the month, the Council meets in 3 committees - Community/Development Services, Finance, and Public Safety/Human Resources. The Finance Committee allows for public comment. These meetings typically start at 6:00 p.m. in three different locations in the Public Safety Complex - City Council Chambers, Jury Room, and Police Training Room. During these meetings, 2 Councilmembers meet with City staff who present detailed briefings on issues that will be coming to the full Council. It is during those meetings that the Committee Councilmembers discuss and ask questions on the issues and may give staff and Council direction on how to proceed.
Public Hearings are regularly scheduled during the 1st and 3rd Tuesday meetings but not the 2nd and 4th. The public may sign up to speak during the "public hearing portion" of the Council meeting.
The full Council Meeting begins with a Call to Order and the Flag Salute. Next on the agenda is the approval of the Agenda followed by approval of the Consent Agenda. Following approval of the Agenda and the Consent Agenda the Council begins to discuss the numbered items on the agenda. During this portion of the Council Meeting, the Council can discuss an item, take action, or refer to a Council committee or place on a future agenda.
Full Council meetings are broadcast daily on Comcast channel 21 and Frontier channel 39.
