One of the very important pieces of our community centers around the viability of the arts. We have developed a very strong regional recognition for arts here in Edmonds, whether it's the quality arts programs in the schools, City programs, various local performing groups, individual artists or internationally known performances at the Edmonds Center for the Arts.

These arts programs have great financial benefit to the city. Programs such as the Rotary's annual "Jazz Connection", our summer "Concert in the Park" series, the Edmonds Arts Festival, the "Thursday Night Art Walks" and ECA concerts all bring people to our city. People coming to Edmonds translates into shoppers, restaurant visits and added vitality to our community.

A program that has not yet received much attention, but as a former music educator I think is important to our school age children, is the m4life program going on in our public schools.

The program provides rehabilitated instruments to low income families in the Edmonds Public Schools. If any of you have instruments you or your children have stored away and would like to donate, Music4Life will have the instruments repaired as needed and get the instruments to kids in our schools. For more information and a donation form please click here

To this point, instruments worth thousands of dollars have been contributed, repaired and put in children's hands. A small but important program which in the long run, enhances a young person's life... and enhances our community's  reputation as an arts community.

Again, Happy New Year!

The City of Edmonds has launched a new Facebook page as part of its ongoing effort to enhance communications with the community. The City adopted its social media policy last Fall, with the goal of launching a Facebook page in the new year.

“We recognize the value of this popular tool in the digital age and feel the City’s new Facebook page constitutes a real step forward towards our goal of reaching out and engaging the community to an even greater degree,” says Edmonds Mayor Dave Earling.

In addition to posting news and announcements to the City website, representatives from each City department can now also regularly contribute content to the City of Edmonds Facebook page as an additional communications tool. Facebook users will be able to read, ‘like,’ share and comment on City posts.

“We hope to make this a fun, informative, interactive site to help communicate and celebrate Edmonds' events, announcements and achievements,” says Economic Development and Community Services Director Patrick Doherty. “With so many of us relying on social media to stay informed, we’re excited to offer this additional communication platform to the community.”
