Spring 2016

In 2015, the City of Edmonds was selected as the Snohomish County Employer of the Year by Community Transit for their participation in the Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Program for large businesses. The Choice Connections CTR program supports businesses affected by the Washington State Commute Trip Reduction Law which requires employers with 100 or more employees to develop programs encouraging their employees to use alternatives to driving alone for their commute.

The City has been actively participating in this program for many years. In 2015, (21) employees consistently participated in the program on a monthly basis and their selected commute modes of transportation to/from work included: biking, walking, carpooling, and taking transit. Employees using such an alternative at least (8) times during any month were eligible in the program and entered into a monthly raffle for (3) different prizes. A trip was considered if an alternate mode of transportation was used for at least half the distance of the total commute distance.

Every quarter, Community Transit selects an employer whose employees showed the strongest participation in the program (based on total number of Single Occupancy Vehicle (SOV) trips removed, emissions reduced, and total gas saving). Edmonds was selected as the winner for the 2nd quarter of 2015. At the Award Ceremony on March 23rd, 2016, they selected an annual winner (from one of the 4 quarter winners) and the City of Edmonds won that award with the highest annual participation in the program.

The City is again excited to participate in the program in 2016 and looking to increase the number of participants.
