What does it take?

The thought of “going green” can be overwhelming, but many of these businesses have started with seemingly smaller changes that all amount to reduced energy use and consumption.  And, many are finding that not only do they feel good about taking steps towards protecting the environment, but they’re also saving money!

From replacing old light bulbs with energy-efficient bulbs to changing printer preferences to always print double-sided, or from offering employees incentives for using alternative means of transportation for their commutes to composting food waste, all of these steps are helping our local businesses realize that it doesn’t take much to make a big impact on protecting the environment and their wallets.

Would you like to become a green business?

The City challenges every business to take the Green Business Pledge as one step towards becoming an environmentally conscious member of the City.  It’s easy – just go to the webpage and fill out the Pledge.  Join your fellow Edmonds businesses who have already pledged, and you will be awarded a Green Business Pledge Emblem to display at your business and receive recognition on the City website and local media for your commitment to conserving and protecting our environment.

What’s better than gaining recognition for your efforts?  The pride you will feel for doing your part, and of course finding that these efforts towards reducing consumption, reducing waste, and being more energy efficient will also help to reduce your business costs!
