Fall 2014
tree compThe City of Edmonds Citizens Tree Board was formed in 2010 and successfully achieved Tree City USA status for the City of Edmonds in 2012.  Currently the Tree Board is working on a tree ordinance update which will update the regulations covering tree cutting on private property and trees located within the City’s right-of-way.  The City Council budgeted $25,000 for the tree code update in the 2014 budget and the City was successful in obtaining a $10,000 grant from the Department of Natural Resources to go towards the tree code update as well.  A consultant has been selected to work with the Tree Board on the tree code update.   The Tree Board held an Open House in August to solicit early input on tree code project and inform citizens about other Tree Board activities such as the Arbor Day Celebration and the proposal for a Heritage Tree Program.

A draft version of the updated tree code has been produced and is being studied by the Tree Board.  A public hearing on the tree code is tentatively scheduled for the December 4th Tree Board meeting.  The Citizens Tree Board meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6 P.M. in the Brackett Room on the third floor of City Hall.  The Tree Board will be making a recommendation on the tree code which will be forwarded to the Planning Board and ultimately the City Council for public hearings and final approval

For more information on the tree code update and to view a draft version of the visit the Edmonds Tree Code Project webpage.

Comments on the draft tree code can be submitted to Kernen Lien, Senior Planner.
